Man Utd vs PSG and Chelsea vs AC Milan: Saturday's Big Friendlies Preview

Saturday is an exciting day for football fans. Manchester United will play PSG in Sweden, while Chelsea take on AC Milan in Indonesia. Both games let fans see how their teams are getting ready for the new season.

Manchester United vs PSG

Kick-off: Saturday 8 August 2026, 4:00pm WAT

Venue: Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, Sweden

Manchester United come into this match feeling good about themselves. New manager Michael Carrick has won his last three warm-up games, including beating Atlético Madrid and Rosenborg. Midfielder Youri Tielemans is about to play his first game for United after Belgium kept him busy at the World Cup.

But United are missing some key players. Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez are still resting after the World Cup. Striker Benjamin Sesko has a shin injury too. The bright side is that Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Diogo Dalot are back and ready to play.

PSG are the best team in Europe right now, but their summer hasn't gone well. They lost 3-0 to Mallorca, a team from Spain's second division, which shocked people. Manager Luis Enrique gets some good news though, with Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and João Neves back in the team. Still, some of PSG's World Cup winners haven't returned yet.

Our thought: United look strong at the moment and PSG are missing too many players. We think Manchester United will win this one.

Chelsea vs AC Milan

Kick-off: Saturday 8 August 2026, 1:00pm WAT

Venue: Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia

Chelsea head into this game looking to turn their pre-season form around. Under new head coach Xabi Alonso, they have lost their last two friendlies in a row, including a 1-0 defeat to Juventus in Hong Kong earlier in the week.

There is a long list of absentees for Chelsea, with Enzo Fernández, Reece James, Malo Gusto, Jordan Henderson and several others still working their way back to fitness after the World Cup. There is better news for Alonso elsewhere, though, with Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill both expected to return to the squad after missing the Juventus game.

AC Milan arrive in Jakarta under their own new manager, former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, who took over after Milan finished a disappointing fifth in Serie A last season. Like Chelsea, Amorim is still searching for his first win in charge and will see this as a big chance to build momentum.

This is also a notable occasion off the pitch. It will be the first-ever meeting between two major European clubs on Indonesian soil, and a big crowd is expected given both clubs' large fanbases in the region.

Our thought: Both teams are struggling for wins and missing important players. This should be a tight match with not many goals. Hard to pick a winner.

Conclusion

Neither result will count for anything competitive, but both give fans a useful early look at squad depth, new signings, and how each manager wants their team to play before the real action starts later this month.

Responsible gambling note

Betting on pre-season friendlies involving heavily rotated squads is especially unpredictable. If you do bet, only stake what you can afford to lose. Support is available through BeGambleAware (UK) if gambling ever stops being fun.
